Our Affordable Stay at Rathbaun Hotel in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, Irelnd June 23, Tweet The Rathbaun Hotel in the small town of Lisdoonvarna in County Clare was the perfect first stop on our Ireland road-trip complete with a lively bar and restaurant, comfortable room, prime location, and wonderful staff. The Rathbaun Hotel is smack dab in the middle of Main Street — across the street is the Lisdoonvarna Cafe, and sandwiched next to a gift shop, post office, a Spar convenience store, and just a few steps away from at least six additional hotels, bars, and restaurants.
The shower was a little small, but any clean shower with excellent water pressure is okay for me. The restaurant and bar on the first floor is deceivingly huge. A large bar takes up the majority of the left side, and the rest of the room is filled with booths, tables, and a small stage for the live Irish band, Ceolan, that plays every evening from 8: The bar filled up each night with guests stopping by for dinner and those staying all night to hear the music.
We had drinks here both nights and dinner once. I tried the broccoli and chicken in a white wine sauce and really enjoyed it! It was plenty of food for the price approx. They also offer breakfast in the morning for about 10 euro. Ceolan was the house band at the hotel — they played traditional Irish songs and a few fun international songs too!

I would think online dating is grand — anything that gets people together is good, you still have to be careful. But at the festival, you get to shake hands and enjoy music and dance. While there is a general stereotype about this old Irish festival, in that it attracts a mix of Americans and soon-to-retire farmers, the diverse range of ages and people would take most by surprise.

I felt a male perspective was needed on this… so here goes. As a 37 year old divorced male I strangely enough have reached the same conclusion — am I facing a seemingly unending period of time on the scrapheap of life. It has been around five years since separation and divorce and in that time there have been a couple of relationships that have lasted years each — and some not so lengthy!
Being honest I would say that the people I have met fall in to roughly two categories… those that are very newly separated and therefore just not settled enough in their own minds to know what is right… and those that well, let us just say, seem to be fruit loops. In the latter category I probably unfairly would place the ladies that I have met that seem to be either a cat obsessed, b away with the fairies most of the time or b selfish beyond belief and are out only for a free ride — with little comprehension that a relationship involves sharing the good times and the bad times — oh and the bills and the driving maybe now and again!
I can appreciate this probably sounds very negative when read back but… I have come across a few dates over the last five years that have been very keen to take advantage of a decent and genuine guy. Such a shame… still, you live and learn as they say.

The name Lisdoonvarna comes from ‘Lios Duin Bhearna’, which means the lios or enclosure of the fort in the gap.
